When choosing a new mobility scooter there are a few things you should consider.
Take into account your current physical limitations and what you limitations in mobility may be like in a year or two. You may be limited to the type of mobility scooter by your ailment so you should talk with your doctor about how your needs may be changing in the next couple of years.
What is a Mobility Scooter?
Generally speaking there is a frame with a motor, seat, and steering wheel. There are 3 or 4 wheel models and steering is achieved with either one or both hands depending on make and model. Mobility scooters have a larger turning radius and are not suitable for confined environments.
Why a Mobility Scooter and not a Motorized Wheelchair?
That completely depends on you, If you can walk but not for extended periods of time, the mobility scooter is probably for you. They are easier to transport and store and there are folding and lightweight models that really make them useful for trips to the market or to visit a friend at the park.
Remember a mobility scooter does not take the place of a motorized wheelchair. If you have very limited mobility or are bound to the wheelchair then a mobility scooter may not be the best choice for you. Talk with your doctor or medical specialist to determine the best choice for your present condition.
